It’s apple season! The markets are loaded with bins upon bins of apples this time of year and I love going every week and finding the best, most perfect apples. I usually buy them to have for a snack at work, dipped in delicious almond butter of course.  They are impeccable this time of year and make the best mid-day snacks. This week I got a little overzealous and bought more apples than I could eat. I didn’t want them to go bad, so the solution; homemade apple chips.

There are so many great things about making homemade apple chips. One of the best is that all you need to make them are apples and cinnamon. That’s it. To slice the apples, I use a mandolin which makes the preparation very quick and easy. It also helps to keep the thickness of the slices about the same, which means they will all take about the same amount of time to bake. If you don’t have a mandolin, use a very sharp knife and some caution when cutting the apples so thin. They don’t have to look perfect, they’re homemade and you want them to look that way.

The apples bake for quite some time at a very low temperature in order to slowly dry them out without burning them. After the first hour, I check them and flip them about every 30 minutes to make sure they’re baking evenly. Depending on the thickness of the apple slices, it can take anywhere from two hours to four hours to bake them. This batch took me about 3 hours. It may seem a little tedious since you have to be around the whole time they’re baking, but on the bright side, your house will smell absolutely incredible and you’ll have the most delicious and healthy snack when they’re done!

Ingredients
  1. 2 apples
  2. 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees
  2. Slice apples very thin using a mandolin (or a very sharp knife if you don't have one). Dicard any seeds.
  3. Place parchment paper on two baking sheets and put apple slices on it without any touching or overlapping. Sprinkle cinnamon over apples.
  4. Bake apples for 1 hour, flip. Bake for another 1-2 hours, flipping every 30 minutes, until the apple slices are crisp.
