GO BRONCOS!!! I can’t believe our home team made it to Super Bowl 50! It has been quite a season; yes – I do watch football. My husband is a huge Broncos fan so you will find us every Sunday watching the game at our house or a local bar. For me, Sundays are more of an excuse to cook delicious and tasty appetizers and drink some cold beer than actually watch the game, but I consider both a win. And with the Super Bowl coming up soon this just means more food and more drinks to make! I wanted to make a Broncos fan cocktail to root on our team (blue & orange) without it being completely disgusting (ever heard of Hpnotiq? yuck!). So the drink is orange and the color of the beer box is blue, works right?

Steve and I love to go to local breweries are Denver and he actually brews some beer of his own, but my first and still favorite beer now is Blue Moon. Maybe it is because it is always served with a slice of orange, but the flavor is perfect and crisp. The wheat beer is actually brewed with Valencia orange peel so mixing it with fresh orange juice is a perfect pairing. This drink is relatively common as more and more bars are coming out with beer/liquor combinations, but I added my own twist to it – rosemary. I really don’t like anything too sweet, so with the addition of the peach schnapps and orange juice, it needed a savory herby flavor and rosemary does just the trick.

Most important thing about cocktails – they need to be easy to make! Nothing is easier than pooping open a beer or opening a bottle of wine so why spend an extra 20 minutes trying to make a fancy cocktail? I love this beer cocktail because it is quick to make and has very few ingredients. To make the cocktail: muddle together fresh oranges and rosemary, pour half of the blue moon or wheat beer into a tall glass, pour in 1 shot of the peach schnapps, pour in 2 shots of fresh orange juice (+rosemary and orange juice muddle), top with other half of the beer and give a light stir, garnish with fresh rosemary swig. Try this delicious and thirst-quenching drink at your Super Bowl party; don’t forget that the drinks are just as important as the food! Well…almost as important! Try pairing it with my favorite 7 layer dip! Cheers!
