It’s true what they say…dogs really are a (wo)man’s best friend! My dog Molly is such a huge part of my life and I don’t know what I would do without her. I’m sure most dog owners feel the same way about their dogs! Molly and I both have a great love for food; and just like me, Molly has food allergies so I am always very cautious about what I feed her and find that she can’t eat a lot of the popular dog treats sold in stores. I usually give her sweet potato cubes, carrots, yogurt, and peanut butter as her treats/snacks. However, I love to make her homemade doggie treats when I have the time so she can enjoy something a little more special. These Peanut Butter and Pumpkin dog treats are some of her favorites; they are very nutritious and filled with some of her favorite flavors. Any dog is sure to love them too!

I want Mol to live a long healthy life, so just like we do as humans, it’s important to try and avoid giving our dogs foods that are filled with too many grains or over processed ingredients. Molly is allergic to most grains anyways, so these treats are perfect for her because the base is coconut flour rather than regular flour or other grains. Coconut flour is not only healthier than other carbohydrate options when making dog treats, but it is actually really good for dogs to consume; it can aid in healing injuries and ailments and it has substantial nutritional support. These treats use both coconut flour and coconut oil, making them tasty and nutritious so I would recommend making them even if your dog doesn’t have allergies.

Now the most delicious part of these treats; peanut butter and pumpkin! These are both ingredients that Molly goes crazy over. Most dogs love peanut butter and you can feel good giving it to them because it’s loaded with antioxidants, protein, vitamins, and quality fats. The pumpkin is not only delicious as well, but it contributes even more to the health benefits of these treats; pumpkin can help your dog with digestive health, urinary health, and weight management. And I finally add just a little bit of parsley as it is a great source of a source of flavonoids, antioxidants, and vitamins and it contains lycopene and carotenes. Parsley is often added to dog treats as a breath freshener and can be used to soothe the stomach. These treats are clearly very healthy and delicious and your dog will absolutely love them… whether they savor every little bite or swallow them whole (like Molly)!
